Cooking with the SUN!!
While traveling on business last summer, I went to a grand opening of an eco store.
There it was sitting in the garden area, cooking little potatoes, a bonafide SUN OVEN.
As I munched a cookie that had been baked in the Sun Oven earlier
I stared like a child watching a birthday cake baking.
This was so cool! The potatoes were being cooked by the sun!
Solar Cooking was about to get better
Years before with my kids, I had made solar ovens out of boxes and oven roasting bags. The results were less than spectacular. But, from then on I was hooked on the idea of solar cooking.
When I finally got back home I found the dealership paperwork on my desk where I had left it. I now knew this was a product that I would love to share. I faxed the paperwork. Soon I would have my very own Sun Oven!
The next week UPS brought my order of ovens. I picked one to be MINE!
So here was my oven freshly unpacked. I wasn’t going to mess around with cookies or potatoes. NO WAY!
The temperature was well over 100. I didn’t want to heat up the house just so the AC could work to cool it off again. And I was so tired of BBQ.
I wanted to cook real, meal food, a chicken. I had one of our farm project chickens defrosted and waiting in the fridge…
After all I had been tracking MY Sun Oven since it left the factory… (I still have the tracking # ) So I had the chicken defrosted and ready to go.
I don’t know why I have such an infatuation with this crazy little oven. Maybe because I waited for years to get one but, I think it is more than that.

When I saw a SUN OVEN in person for the first time at the eco mart I was amazed at the simplicity of the oven.
And for some wild reason the potatoes tasted better and the cookies were somehow more special. This oven is just simply delightful.
Some might even say magical

Sun Oven helps cook Thanksgiving DINNER
While the turkey and dressing cooked in the house oven sweet potatoes and
winter squash were cooked outside in the Sun Oven..
The low winter sun blocked by surrounding houses and the move to a new home put a halt to my Solar epicurean delights. At least until we were settled in the new house.
Sun Oven cooking is here to stay!
I love being able to cook and not over heat the house during the summer. The kids enjoy a Sun Oven meal as much as their Dad’s BBQ (well almost). Now that I have my Sun Oven I use it often. It’s not a fluff item for me . I’m delighted that I finally made the investment. I think every home should have one of these amazingly simple ovens. They are low tech..and somehow that is wonderfully, deliciously satisfying.
Keep Food REAL!!!
