Hail Storms in the West….

In the spring of 2006, just before relocating to Idaho, a super cell ripped through our town breaking windows and damaging cars…. We suffered both. Hand sized chunks of jagged ice dropped like bombs from the sky. It was a bad storm.

We will never forget that freaky, weird, green color in the sky which was the tell tale sign of the danger that moved us quickly inside to safety. I knew more than one person that was badly bruised from getting caught outside without cover. Several friends had windows broken. The car dealers took a real bad hit… Our new Nissan was badly dimpled as were most of the cars in the area. Fortunately because of our impending move we didn’t plant a garden that year. If we had, it would have been utterly destroyed.

Keeping the Garden…

That was by far the most severe storm I’d ever encountered in Oregon in my 41 years of living there. Every year, though, we would experience hail storms that would threaten to pulverize new seed beds. Little starts would be pummeled to destruction by marble sized hail. Larger plants would have their leaves ripped and battered; stunting growth and inviting disease after the storm had passed.

So now, I try to make every effort to protect tender plants from the devastation of pelting ice rocks.

I cover the potatoes with a covering of straw. Use grass reed fencing to protect young peas and lettuce plants. Tender herbs are protected using whatever is available inverted buckets or baskets work well . Strong winds usually accompany hail so precautions need to be taken to ensure the “cover” won’t end up at the neighbors or into another one of YOUR planted areas..causing more damage. Well placed rocks, bricks , stepping stones, etc make good weights for holding down cover. I have them staged around my yard for just such occasions.

Food in the garden=Money in the bank

A healthy garden is like money in the bank…

Food prices are going up.. who knows where they will top out…
I need to protect my investment of money and time with a little preparation. Hopefully this season won’t see any super cell storms, but if it does I’ll be ready. Knowing what you will do when severe or unseasonal weather threatens your kitchen garden is an important consideration.. My advice to new gardeners is this… have your protection supplies ready. It only takes 5 minutes of pelting hail to ruin your plants.

Have a plan and be ready to go.

Stage your materials around the ares of the garden that you feel are at the most risk. Tender herbs and small seedlings are the most vulnerable. Don’t wait until the hail is already coming down. Be alert to changes in the weather . Feel the air is it icy ? has the wind picked up? are the clouds dark and threatening? With all the crazy weather going on, fine tune YOUR radar to what is going on around you.

If you can’t be home make plans to have non-damaging cover over your plants if you feel the threat of bad weather is high. But don’t leave things like dark colored buckets over the top of plants all day if you expect it to be sunny. You’ll come home to cooked plants.

If you have a stay at home neighbor that you can trust with your yard, make arrangements with them in advance to protect your garden in your absence. If they ever have to help you, don’t forget to share the bounty with them

New to Gardening?

Don’t be a worry wart but do be proactive.. And even if it does ‘hail on your parade’, it’s not the end of the world. If you sustain damage just get busy and replant as soon as the weather permits. Your garden is extension of your kitchen and with practice you’ll learn to keep up with it as easily as you do your inside pantry.

Tamar Logan was diagnosed with cervical cancer and chose to deal with her health condition holistically. The last report I had of Tamar is that she had completed a 21 day cleanse and was feeling great. Now she will continue a strict raw food regime.

KKC along with Valerie Knowles, a long time raw foodie, helped raise money to purchase raw organic foods for Tamar. Valerie is currently on her way to the Logan’s home to make food for Tamar and share with her daughter some recipes and raw food techniques.

Please keep Valerie in your prayers as she travels through the Rockies this time of year. She will be visiting the Logan’s twice during her trip…now at the beginning and then after she spends some time with her parents who live north of the Logans in central Colorado.

If you would still like to bless the Logan financially you may send your donations directly to them at the following address.

This arrived in my e-mail and I thought I would post it here :0)

Shalom everyone,

Thank you for your prayers!!! I made it through the detox. It was a good cleanse to go through.

I praise Abba that He gave me a baby girl who has adapted to every change brought her way. Metivah took to the bottle and snuggled next to me at night nursing a pacifier and then when I got low on stored milk at the end drank coconut cream water as if it was breast milk. She then came right back to nursing like she had never been away from it, dropping the pacifier and was patient while I built my milk supply back up to her needs. She has been such a blessing and I am so thankful to My Father for allowing me to continue to enjoy this special gift through all this.

I am so grateful for my Mom and Dad, who have volunteered their time, even taking off of work to come help. They have been so supportive and encouraging of our decisions. My Mother-in-law, for coming up and giving an extra hand through the cleanse, She has been here going on 3 weeks now enduring the heartache of being away from Grandpa. Thank you Grandpa for letting her come and being a good sport all alone. My children, Sarah/Cheyenne for faithfully getting up and being “Mom” while Mom was unavailable. (I think she does it better than me.) For Bailey Jo/Yaelah who has made ALL my juices morning and night, Avraham/Colton who makes sure that all outside is under control and does the things that Mom can’t do. For all my children who have come beside me and help to pick up the slack and do what needs to be done. And the best for last, my Husband, who stands by me and encourages me when I am down. Who has never once wavered or thought that this cancer was going to take over my body, and does not allow me to go there either – he is in this battle with me all the way. He prays with me, over me, and for me. And my sister, brother-in-law, friends ( the L Bunch, the A.’s, G.H. and that whole group, M. family, N.M., R.W. who is working on a bus for us, V. who is going to be my raw food instructor, and … there are too many to count, some whom I have not even spoke to in years) and other family for your tremendous help through it all. You have stood by me, making what could be a very hard time not so hard. I appreciate all the encouragement and support from all you who have sent notes and gifts making it all possible, you really don’t know how much it means to me and how perfect the timing is on them.

The first phase ended successfully last Saturday and now we prepare for phase 2. This means that Yoshua/Jason, Metivah, and I will fly out to South Carolina and meet up with Dr. Tunsky this Friday, the 29th. I will be scanned by a very non-invasive, yet very exhaustive scanner. We will then know all the details of what is going on in my body, from how large the tumor is (if it is still there) to what I had for lunch yesterday and where those nutrients went. It gives 45 pages of information on my body and will show us the areas of weakness that we need to work toward rebuilding. At this time we will go after the restoration of the cells that have been overloaded with toxins to the point of being unable to do any more then try and survive, what we call cancer. Our mode of operand is to support the body that our Creator designed and let it heal itself the way He designed it to. This is the only CURE for cancer out there. Oh I have so much I could share, things that we are not taught and, once heard, make absolute sense, we wonder how we have believed any other way.

I will come home with a protocol that will continue to be life changing no doubt. I continue to be excited about ALL that Abba is doing in me through this. He continues to show me the correlation between how the physical body works in relation to the spiritual body. I share with Yoshua/Jason what I learn about cancer and healing the body and Abba reveals to him how that is the same with the spiritual body. He is so good!

I have already received phone calls from people and friends of people who have been diagnosed with multiple cancers and have been given a short time to live. They call with a pricking in their spirit that there must be another way, they call seeking hope when they have not been given hope anywhere else. I am so blessed to be able to share what Abba has plainly revealed to me and is out there for all who desire to seek truth.

I carry a peace that comes pretty easy for me and passes all understanding for some. I am free to live for Him and I choose to not allow this to distract me from my assignment I have been called to walk out. So please, those whom I run into in life – don’t be afraid to ask how I am – I will tell you “GREAT!”

Thank you Abba for continuing to provide at all the turns. For meeting us there not a moment too late. You provide our every need continually affirming that You have us in Your Hand and are watching over your children.

Blessings to you all,

(and I am trying to get back to all who have written in)

with my love and gratitude,

T

———————————————————————————–

I’ll try to get my interview with Valerie up tomorrow…. Until then….

Keep Food REAL!

Dear Raw Milk Advocate:

As you may be aware, there are currently proposed legislative rules before the House and the Senate in Boise concerning Cow/Herd Share Programs in Idaho and our ability as Farmers to continue to provide these services to people who wish to use them. There are some good parts to the proposed rules which will help to assure the cleanliness of the milk, such as regular testing of the milk for bacteria counts, etc. However, there is one proposal which could, in effect, drastically limit the availability of raw milk from Herd Share Programs in the future. That is that each herd would be limited to no more than three lactating cows or seven goats or sheep.

This limitation, in my opinion, is unrealistic, as it in no way serves to reduce the risk of contaminated milk; safe milk depends on cleanliness. But it does severely limit the amount of milk a single farm can produce for its boarders. Therefore it will limit the number of consumers who can use the boarding services.

If you agree, and you would like to help protect the right of consumers to drink raw milk please contact the legislators listed below and let your voice be heard IMMEDIATELY!
